Has anyone seen that lady sitting outside Morrison shopping car park lately (Blackburn)? Who? 🤔

She didn’t look like a tramp, but neither was she not looking like a tramp.

Anyways, as I guiltily walked passed her without dropping a penny into her cup, she called out “Spare change love?” 😬

I cringed, stopped, walked back, knelt down next to her and said, “Listen lady, it’s more shame on me to pass you by giving nothing, it’s worse still to insult you giving…a pound. You are worth more than my few quid.”

I lectured 🗣 her a bit more, “Look at me, I am disadvantaged to the core. I am coloured/you are white, I’m covered head to toe/you dress freely, I wear a niqab/you do not, I’m a Muslim/you are not, I’m a woman/but thats okay, so are you.” 😄

“We all know you earn a few bob sitting out here begging and does anyone feel sorry for you? Does anyone care for you? Sort yourself out. People pay me to teach their kids 1 add 1, you can do that too!”

I told her my mums story, she came to England coming from a lap of luxury with servants polishing her shoes. She was a General army’s daughter.

But when she came to England, she started waiting tables. She worked so hard to give 5 girls extra tuition at £30/hr. Thirty years ago…that was a lot of money. Because even today it’s still a lot of money!

Its paid off, we all have MSc degrees in different disciplines. 👩‍🎓

I told her we were homeless twice in our life. Once when I was a toddler, which I don’t remember. Another time was when I was 11 years old. I remember it clearly.😩

I told the lady, we all know that ‘generally’ homeless people are substance users and just waste our coppers. But for some reason.. she didn’t look like she was on drugs.

The lady got up, dusted herself off, and said, “Thankyou, I really needed that, nobody looks at me, nobody stops and talks. The council calls me to meetings to talk. They ask me to give my two cents 🧐 about stuff. I am worth more than this.”

I said, “Omg, I am sure the council can spare you a few quid next time they call you, dont do it for free anymore. Incase you didn’t realise the government is not THAT poor!” 🙄🤨

And off she went. Skipping 🤸‍♀️. Has anyone seen her since?

(Giving a kick up the backside to an adult is one thing. Giving it to a child is something else. Kids need encouragement…not lectures. 😀)
